Frequently Asked Questions
SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit graduates for Group B and Group C posts in various government ministries, departments, and organizations. Posts include Tax Assistant, Auditor, Inspector, Sub-Inspector, and Assistant in ministries like Finance, Railways, and External Affairs.
SSC CGL Tier 1 is a computer-based exam with 100 questions (200 marks) to be completed in 60 minutes. It has four sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 questions), General Awareness (25 questions), Quantitative Aptitude (25 questions), and English Comprehension (25 questions). There is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university. The age limit is 18-32 years for most posts, with relaxation for reserved categories (5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC). Some posts like Statistical Investigator require specific educational qualifications.
The selection process consists of Tier 1 (Prelims - qualifying), Tier 2 (Mains - merit-based), and Tier 3 (Skill Test/Document Verification for specific posts). The final merit is prepared based on Tier 2 marks. Some posts require additional typing or computer proficiency tests.
Focus on Arithmetic (Percentage, Profit & Loss, SI/CI, Time & Work, Speed & Distance), Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Data Interpretation. Practice shortcuts and tricks for faster calculations. Previous year papers are essential as SSC often repeats similar question patterns.
A score of 140-150+ out of 200 in Tier 1 is generally considered safe for clearing the cutoff for most posts. The cutoff varies by category and year. For top posts like Tax Assistant and Inspector, aim for 160+. Regular practice of mock tests helps achieve competitive scores.
There is no limit on the number of attempts for SSC CGL as long as the candidate meets the age criteria. With age relaxation, general category candidates can attempt until age 32, OBC until 35, and SC/ST until 37.
